The trek
Overview
The trail to Everest Base Camp is the most storied walk in the Himalaya: a two-week journey up the Khumbu valley from the mountain airstrip at Lukla to the amphitheatre of ice at 5,364 m where expeditions stage their summit bids. You climb through Sherpa villages and rhododendron forest, cross swaying suspension bridges over the Dudh Koshi, and watch the architecture change from terraced fields to glacial moraine.
Our itinerary takes acclimatization seriously. Two built-in adaptation days — one above Namche Bazaar, one at Dingboche — follow the climb-high, sleep-low rule, and your guide checks oxygen saturation every evening above 3,000 m. The reward for patience is the sunrise climb of Kala Patthar (5,545 m), the finest close-range viewpoint of Everest anywhere on the trek.
You sleep in family-run teahouses the whole way, eat dal bhat beside yak-dung stoves, and walk with a crew that has made this journey hundreds of times. Buffer logic is built around the Lukla flight so a weather delay does not cost you Base Camp.
