The trek
Overview
Langtang is the valley trekkers in the know pick first: no domestic flight, a single day's drive from Kathmandu, and within three walking days you are at 3,870 m with glaciated 7,000 m peaks on every side. In barely 30 km the trail rises from subtropical river forest into alpine yak pasture.
The valley ends at Kyanjin Gompa, a monastery village beneath Langtang Lirung (7,227 m) where a small dairy has been turning yak milk into cheese since 1955. A spare day here lets you climb Kyanjin Ri (4,773 m) above the rooftops, or commit to the longer haul up Tserko Ri (4,984 m) for a horizon that runs from Ganesh Himal into Tibet.
Nine days door to door keeps this within a normal holiday, and the grading stays moderate — everything above 4,000 m is optional. Your hosts throughout are Tamang families whose teahouses line the route, and your guide checks how everyone is adapting each evening above 3,000 m.

Itinerary
Day by day
An early start for the 122 km road north through Trishuli Bazaar, climbing past terraced hillsides with Ganesh Himal on the skyline. The surface turns rough after Dhunche; count on about 7 hours to the roadhead town of Syabrubesi.

“Langtang was my third trek in Nepal and the one I think about most. The trail climbs through forest loud with birdsong into a high valley walled by ice, and in April the rhododendrons were absurd. Our guide grew up nearby and carried the valley's story — including the 2015 earthquake — with real care. The dawn walk above Kyanjin Gompa, tea at the top, cheese from the Kyanjin dairy afterwards: quiet, unhurried days, done properly.”
