A restricted-area circuit around the world's eighth-highest peak

Walking in Manaslu
The Manaslu Circuit is the Himalaya as it was a generation ago: a full circuit of an 8,000 m peak through villages where Tibetan Buddhism shapes daily life, with a fraction of the foot traffic of Annapurna. The trail climbs the Budhi Gandaki gorge from subtropical farmland to the high crossing of the Larkya La at 5,106 m, then descends into the Annapurna region to close the loop.
Because it is a restricted area, you trek with a licensed guide and a special permit, and you go in a small group — part of what keeps it wild. Teahouses now run the length of the route, so the circuit is comfortable without being crowded, and it rewards trekkers who want commitment and quiet over crowds.
